Mónica Márquez, Colombian-Canadian painter, photographer and digital artist. Since 2001 she lives in the Ottawa region in Canada. While Mónica worked for many years in international finance, art has always been her true passion. From 1997-2000, she followed painting courses with the artist Francisco Martínez in Bogotá, Colombia. Between 1999 and 2005 she participated in numerous art workshops in Italy and France. In 2006 she obtained an M.A. in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa. Monica’s works draw from her research about identity questions and the nature of human relationships within the Internet’s social networks. Her works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, Colombia, Italy and France. In 2010 and 2011 she received project grants from the Ontario Arts Council for her photo-based digital series “The Lives of others” and “One and No One”. Her works have been featured in diverse catalogues and publications including Canadian arts magazines Vie des Arts and Guerilla.
